How good does this look.. this is the new Mayan Chocolate from Haagen Dasz
Described as:

I think this inspiration will be the first ice cream I try with my new book....
There is a chocolate cinnamon ice cream recipe in there...
I just have to figure out quantities... because there is no way I want 2 quarts of this in the house LOL

I got this book for my birthday! Oh what to do first! I do have an ice cream maker in my storage area but I am not sure if it works... or if I have room in my freezer! I know what I will be doing this week!

Anyone have any recommendations???

Cold Stone Creamery knew it was my Birthday!

Does anyone have one of these in their area? We do!! It just opened :). And as luck would have it, I got a free ice cream email because of my....... BIRTHDAY. Well obviously I could not let it go to waste!! So I drove about 15 minutes from where I work to get there just to get the free "LOVE IT" size. Which is like a Medium.

After presenting my coupon they all broke into a happy birthday chorus. How nice! :). After looking at all the different creations I decided to go for the Apple Pie A La Cold Stone. I went for the Sinless Sweet Cream ice cream base (No Sugar, Low Fat) then they put apple pie filling, graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon and caramel in it and mix it all in. It was soooo good, tasted just like a piece of pie with ice cream on the side! I would definitely get this again!

And of course just like all other ice cream I buy. 2 spoonfuls for now and the rest for later savoring! So I brought it back to work and I am going to keep it in my freezer at work. Every day I will have just a little.

WILLPOWER!! :)

Birthday Week... I mean Day

I always seem to have a birthday week...
Various friends or family have to celebrate at different times for some reason...
So today was day number 3...
And what did we do to celebrate??
Go get ice cream :)
Seriously... I can't get away from it right now!!
Not that I am complaining...
But my freezer is groaning a bit!

We went to a new favorite of mine called Jake's Ice Cream...
She does small batch gourmet flavors...
I took home a flavor called Sticky Bon-Bon...
Cinnamon ice cream with candied pecans in it...
Um..... YUMMMMMMMMMMM

And had the "Devil Dog" while I was there...
Vanilla base with devil dogs mixed in... and a bit of Kahlua Chunk on top...

I brought several friends with me...
So hopefully she gets some more business from this event in the future...
I am about a 1/2 an hour away...
But always bring a pint home...

I did try the Mexican Chocolate... and though I am not a big chocolate fan...
The cinnamon and chili powder in the chocolate kept it from being so heavy...
And get it a great zing...

So I went to Baskin Robbins last night...
After I had Friendly's and a scoop of their No-Sugar Vanilla with No-Sugar Hot Fudge
Believe it or not, even with a blog like this I still watch what I eat LOL
I love that Friendly's ice cream combo... So good!

Anyway... took the trip... and tried 3 flavors
I tried the Tea of Tranquility, Tiramisu and Strawberry Shortcake...
I ended up going with the Tea of Tranquility. But the others were not bad...
The Tea had gingersnap cookie pieces in it and a gingery flavor...
It wasn't wowing me but it was good enough free!

The Strawberry Shortcake was yummy but something just didn't jive..
It had pieces of shortcake in it and thick strawberry jelly swirl through it...
Maybe next time on that one!

And the Tiramisu was yummy... I just wasn't in the mood for coffee flavored ice cream...
But again... tiramisu cake pieces mixed in...

Birthday = FREE ICE CREAM!

I love my birthday... I am going to be 31 on Friday... Cinco de Mayo...
A few weeks ago I went crazy and signed up for emails to a lot of my local restaurants...
So now I am getting a slew of Birthday emails with coupons!! FUN!
Well now I have no excuse NOT to go to Baskin Robbins :)
I got a free scoop coupon in my inbox today...
I really want to try their Chai ice cream... I am hoping it will be at my local shop here...
So I might be taking a trip over this lunchtime to check it out...

Tried... Not bad

So I was at the mall today and wanted to try some of those flavors you always see at the supermarket from Haagen-Dazs. I sampled Caramel Cone today. It is described as:

"this creamy blend of caramel ice cream with rich caramel swirls balances the sweet crunch of chocolate-covered cone pieces for a harmony of caramel, chocolate and crunch in every bite"

It wasn't bad... it was sort of heavily caramel tasting. Which if you read the description you would be like... DUH!

I also did try the Praline and Cream as well... which is pretty much like Butter Pecan but it was yummy...

Next I am going to taste test at Baskin Robbins. I will let you know what I find there!!

Minty Chocolate Chip Ice Cream recipe

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Servings: Makes about 1 1/2 quartsServing Size: not available Nutrition: not available
Prep Time: 20 minutesCook Time: 0Total Time: 0

Ingredients
1 (14-ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
2 teaspoons peppermint extract
Green food coloring (optional)
2 cups (1 pint) half-and-half
2 cups (1 pint) whipping cream, unwhipped
3/4 cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
In large bowl, combine EAGLE BRAND®, peppermint extract and food coloring (optional); mix well. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Pour into ice cream freezer container. Freeze according to manufacturer’s instructions. Freeze leftovers.
Notes: Refrigerator- Freezer Method: Omit half-and-half; reduce mini chocolate chips to 1/2 cup. Whip whipping cream. In large bowl, combine EAGLE BRAND®, extract and food coloring (optional); mix well. Fold in whipped cream and chocolate chips. Pour into 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or other 2- quarts container; cover. Freeze 6 hours or until firm. Freeze leftovers.

Strawberry Ice Cream Recipe

I don't know where my ice cream maker is at the moment :(. So I am trying to do it just the freezer way. I am getting together with friends this weekend for dessert sharing and I am wanting to do something summery and yummy!

I found this recipe on www.foodnetwork.com and I hope it is as good and easy as it looks!

Strawberry Ice Cream

1 pint strawberries

1/3 cup sugar

2 cups light cream, very cold

Juice of half a lemon

Remove stems from strawberries. Place strawberries on cookie sheet and freeze until solid. In a food processor combine cream, sugar, lemon juice, and frozen berries. Blend until smooth and remove to 9 x 9-inch glass dish. Freeze again until firm. Serve.

This is a constantly stocked item in my freezer! These bars are delicious! And are so strawberry tasting. And look at that box. How can you beat 4g of fiber and the calories. The boxes now actually say 90 calories in the store. Even better! I hope you go find these and give them a try. Don't be scared that they are "diet"! And for you WW followers out there, they are 1.5 points per bar. YUMMY!
